EPIC guys!

I caught the one up on YouTube, but promised to come here and vote plus review, so here it is.

Lots of talent went into this, that much is obvious. Congratulations on your Daily 3rd as well. Can't wait to see more work from everyone!

FlashfireEX responds:

Thanks a lot, Sunrie! :D

Screw me backwards and slap my face

Probably one of the funniest and best animated ones yet. When I saw Gasper start dancing I couldn't stop laughing.

The conversations and character interactions are getting even better as well. The drawn scene with the lightening was priceless and a nice addition to the series.

Can't wait to see more!

Clovis15 responds:

I'm glad you liked the Dancing Gaspar scene, I was worried going in that everyone would hate it. Congratulations on also being the first person here to post about the hand drawn scene, it's good to see that someone responded to it. As for the writing quality, we hope to keep up the high standards presented here as we march forward into the future.

LOVED the episode

That was funny as hell. I love the little side story arc with Fritz and Jenny.

Clovis15 responds:

Thank you, I thought it was important we used this episode to wrap up the loose ends on that sideplot - while it was still somewhat fresh in people's heads - rather than wait for the next logical spot to touch upon how it turned out (which would have been after they got back home temporarily after visiting the end of time for the first time).

Entertaining as hell

Excellent drawings, which fit the silly styling for a parody of the telling of The Odyssey. Surprised to hear Loreena McKennitt, too

Really good

Good job! Very entertaining and a lot of fun to watch. Great job on the voice acting as well. Excellent use of ambient noise.

One of the kids, the one in the monster mask, had his voice file repeat on top of itself, however, which as a bit annoying.

seAnceTM responds:

lol the monster mask kid and the hockey mask one are twins thats why they sounded the same and they always repeated each other but since i had to cut out parts it didn't explain they were twins. thanks and glad you liked it.

Good follow up with great humor

While the basis isn't the most original thing in the world, this was very well done.

Once again Hadoukendude brings us a variety of MK outtakes with his own humor styling.

My favorite was definitely the Kung Pow reference in the skit called "'Kang'-Pow"

Adds nothing new to tutorials for sprites

There's nothing new in this tutorial to make it stand out from other sprite tutorials. Also, the sprite of link was obviously traced using an option other than "Pixles" in the "Trace Bitmap" option, which gives him a smashed, Play-Dough look.

This tutorial, just like so many other sprite tutorials fails to mention and instruct two of the most important points in making a sprite animation:

1. Sprites all have anchor points regardless of the frame of animation. Using these anchor points keeps the sprites from bouncing around.

-Obviously the author of this tutorial either doesn't know or didn't care enough to check, since his example of Link's running animation isn't smooth and nudges back and forth. It takes half a second to zoom in to 2000% and make sure that all the frames are lined up correctly. Nudging/bouncing sprites are an example of extreme noobness and is seen as lazy.

2. Tracing bitmaps adds a LOT to the file size.

-Using an external program such as JASC Paintshop Pro (which is free) or even Photoshop in order to make each from of animation an individual and transparent bitmap is the best way to do it. In just one animation I was able to take over 3MB off the finished file size just doing it that way.

This tutorial doesn't really give much in the way of new help, nor does it really give good examples and screenshots like many others do. In addition, the author failed to use correct sound settings because the music often overlaps on to another clip.

More polish and more information is needed to make a truly good tutorial, and this one is just "Okay". It really is amateur.

Kurbz004 responds:

Well I admit I did make some mistakes... I knew the end music would overlap onto the Press play scene, but that doesn't matter because your not here to listen to music.

Plus I am aware that the Link giving the tutorial is not the same as the one I showed you how to make, that's because I already had a link left over from another flash and thought it a little easier to just bring him in instead of having to re-create a whole new Link.

Plus your little thing about Paintshop Pro would work I imagine, but this tutorial is for more of the "Quickly make it kind", as for the constant jolting in the animation, I wasn't under the impression that it would really matter, I mean, surely if you make it yourself you would obviously figure out that it's supposed to look different.

But anyway, I suppose you always have to have SOME petty criticism, so yeah, I made some mistakes, were they huge giant mistakes that made my tutorial completely invalid, no.

In future, try not to be so petty, you won't be getting much friends that way...

LOL

Not bad, not great, could use better execution

The actual animation of the characters was fine, but a few of the edits and rips could use a little work (Mario's walking animation has a few graphical glitches for instance).

By far not the worst Mario or sprite animation on Newgrounds, it just needs a little polish. The heavy use of tint filters and a few positions of the characters not being in the correct spot on the ground (either too high or too low the point of contact) takes it down a bit.

Lastly, the execution/timing of some of the jokes are a bit off. With a little more tweaking there's no doubt that ForNoReason and MarioFlashMovies won't be popular for these types of animations.

...huh...why isn't this higher?

I understood the humor and kind of poking fun at sprite movies using this sprite movie...so my question is, why is this rated so low? The sprites were decently animated and it had that "random humor" thing going for it.

Well, good job. To each their own for those who don't like it.

ifureadthisdie responds:

lol i didn't poke fun at sprites though, i love spriting. And i dunno, NG doesn't like sprites? According to the one who rated 4 maybe it's because it had no plot? Even though this was a random flash made in a week for fun, and doesn't really need a plot since that would take away the random humor of it which makes it even more fun to watch. So NG is just strict as hell and hard to get by, but i guess it helps me to get better

What is...I don't even...

I have to be honest...I don't really know what's going on in this animation.

The sprite presentation needs a lot of work, but it's not terrible. The author has a basic understanding of choreography for battles, but it's really novice.

Also, the music over loops into itself, which is really annoying.

kirbyky100 responds:

im pretty much a beginnner.....the 3D graphics r pretty kool u gotta admit...no where near as good as Alvins......the baseball scene is a flashbak...and mecha sonic and tht bannedstory character apperaed cuz of my 1st flashe's story
