Captain R: The Game Ranger is currently being developed. Here's the Newgrounds.com interview for you all!
1. What is the story behind your latest creation?
Sunrie:
Well, at the end of the last episode we saw Ron warping back to the End of Time, from Chrono Trigger, and learning his powers are growing. He obviously isn't very thrilled over everything already happening to him. Now Ron is pretty much free to do what ever it is he needs to...but he really doesn't want to do anything.
2. Who or what inspired you to begin your production?
Sunrie:
For sure the original cartoon Captain N: The Game Master. Then there's those really funny and/or amazing sprite animations such as Alivn-Earthworm's "Super Mario Bros Z", Clovis15's "Chrono Trigger: Unglued", and R1665's "Exiles" series.
As for the original idea of this series, Wyldfyre1 and Maximus2142 (both of Newgrounds fame) made an animation called "The Adventures of Ron". They created the entire thing in an old version of Swish and exported it as an MPEG. The file was massive! After two or so episodes, I decided to try my hand at it on Flash MX2004. After making the Donkey Ball Z episode, I got Flash 8 Pro and began learning to use sprites. Never looked back.
3. How long have you been working on it and when do you expect to finish?
Sunrie:
Oooh boy...a long time. I'm going to have a very, very long time in this. Honestly, I don't even know how long hour wise I already have into it. I know there have been eight, ten, and twelve hour days in order to get things set. Maybe half a month of actual work time if it was put out in a straight timeline. When do I expect to finish? I really hope that it gets out before the end of the year!
4. Are there going to be new worlds and characters released in this episode? If so, who and where?!
Sunrie:
Unlike the last episode, we're showing off more than just one world. You'll be seeing three actual worlds and one limbo area. How and why the limbo scene connects is a secret, as is how he gets there. There will also be many new characters shown in this one. Some of the new characters are Subarashii, Kinto, Aku, and Komori. Yes, there are more characters, but I'm not about to expose everything right away.
5. Do you feel this is better than your previous work? If so, why?
Sunrie:
Not that I wasn't good before, but yes, this makes Game Ranger 3 look unrefined. Even with all the annoyances, I'm having a blast working on this. Additionally, the voice actors are insanely high quality. Be expecting some recognizable names playing the characters.
6. Even this being the fourth episode, do you still feel this is something original?
Sunrie:
It's original because it's Game Ranger. There are sprites from all over and what-not, but yes, this is something you aren't going to find other places. We have a racist, foul mouthed anti-hero who gimps his way through fights and likable supporting characters who are trying their best to save their worlds.
7. Most of the questions were answered last episode, but a few more were created. Will these be explained?
Sunrie:
Of course. Granted, not every question is going to be answered, but you will get to see why Richter is on the "bad" side of everything, as well as learn where Princess Willow has been. Episode 5 will answer more questions...but that's another story.
8. So more episodes? Excellent! Have you learned new techniques so far making this?
Sunrie:
Like you wouldn't believe. Every time I make a new animation I learn something new to either use in the current or next one I make.
9. What programs do you use?
Sunrie:
Paintshop Pro, Vegas 6.0 Professional, Audicity, Voco Edit Pro, or whatever it's called... I think that's all of them!
10. What has given you the most problems making this animation so far?
Sunrie:
Grrr...getting files from voice actors! Well...that and burning myself out. As of now, with one scene 100% completed, and the other scenes being between 60% and 80% finished, the file size is 13.4MB! Yeah, big file, but this is a fully voiced animation which will be over 10 minutes long.
11. How do you think this will measure up to the other submissions on Newgrounds.com?
Sunrie:
The original, the remake, the second episode, and the third were very well received. I don't see anything other than people finding this one even better and spreading the word about the series. Captain R: The Game Ranger episodes continue to climb in score every day, so I'm sure it will do just fine.
12. Are there any final thoughts or anything else you'd like to say?
Sunrie:
Watch it or die! Hell, maybe even die watching it! You'll laugh, you'll cry...you may even cum a little. I think I just did!
