Well, guess I'm working on the Game Ranger 4 file again.

Sadly, I'm still only using Flash 8 Pro. No, I never upgraded. Ever. I'm pretty sure there's a way to convert it to an MP4 after I render it, so there won't be any of those cool "click here and here for chapter select and secret items" anymore.

I cracked the file back open and the desire to finish it is there. There will never be a Game Ranger 5, as the people involved are...not involved with each other anymore. Unless I changed the cast, this will be the last Game Ranger ever made.

--Update--

While looking up to see if sprite animations are still a thing on Newgrounds it's become apparent people have forgotten how to animate sprites. Hopefully releasing this, at some point, will change that and revive it as a medium. I may even finally release my Street Fighter vs Dragon Ball Z...that has some really popular voice actors from back in the day in it.

Hello after...what...a decade? Yeah, unfortunately Game Ranger 4 will probably never be finished, but I'm still doing artwork and now doing music. Finally figured it out and I'm allowed back on the audio portal. No idea why I was never allowed to before.

Go check out my audio. I'll upload more the coming days. I did three today. Don't want to batch upload everything.

What's new..? A lot. Sorry, all you're getting :)

Well, it took forever for me to get another animation up, but I finally did it.  Poketroid is finally available up here on Newgrounds.  Go over and show some love by leaving a review and voting.  Yes, it's a sprite movie, so if you hate them, don't bother. - www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/657602 -

Also, Clovis15 has finally been able to get the voice over version of Chrono Trigger Unglued 01 uploaded!  He'll be uploading the rest each day as he's able to. - www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/657657 -

Yay!  Got another animation up on Newgrounds, so looks like the dry spell is over.  Head on over to http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/6412111 to watch, vote, and review my newest animation: Toad's Tower Tribulations.

Thanks again for everyone's continued support.

Oh thank god...I fixed Game Ranger 4.  Now I don't have to trash the entire project.

Seriously, I thought I was going to have to get rid of all of it.  Luckily, I found a very predictible way in which it would mess up and I am able to work completely around it.

Now if I can just get SFvsDBZ to work a little better, I'll be set!

So, after chasing gremlins for months, I think the project is just trashed thanks to bugs in Flash.  The audio sync is so out of god damn control it's going to be almost impossible to fix.  Fixing one audio bug wrecks another audio track, and fixing that one, causes another, etc, etc, etc.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to get GR4 done since I'd have to start over at this point.  I'm getting to where I never want to animate again because Flash is such a god damn shitty program always fucking me in the ass...

Yep, headway is being made on projects. That includes Game Ranger 4 and...holy shit...was is that a screen shot of?!

Making headway on projects

Captain R: The Game Ranger is currently being developed. Here's the Newgrounds.com interview for you all!

1. What is the story behind your latest creation?
Sunrie:
Well, at the end of the last episode we saw Ron warping back to the End of Time, from Chrono Trigger, and learning his powers are growing. He obviously isn't very thrilled over everything already happening to him. Now Ron is pretty much free to do what ever it is he needs to...but he really doesn't want to do anything.

2. Who or what inspired you to begin your production?
Sunrie:
For sure the original cartoon Captain N: The Game Master. Then there's those really funny and/or amazing sprite animations such as Alivn-Earthworm's "Super Mario Bros Z", Clovis15's "Chrono Trigger: Unglued", and R1665's "Exiles" series.

As for the original idea of this series, Wyldfyre1 and Maximus2142 (both of Newgrounds fame) made an animation called "The Adventures of Ron". They created the entire thing in an old version of Swish and exported it as an MPEG. The file was massive! After two or so episodes, I decided to try my hand at it on Flash MX2004. After making the Donkey Ball Z episode, I got Flash 8 Pro and began learning to use sprites. Never looked back.

3. How long have you been working on it and when do you expect to finish?
Sunrie:
Oooh boy...a long time. I'm going to have a very, very long time in this. Honestly, I don't even know how long hour wise I already have into it. I know there have been eight, ten, and twelve hour days in order to get things set. Maybe half a month of actual work time if it was put out in a straight timeline. When do I expect to finish? I really hope that it gets out before the end of the year!

4. Are there going to be new worlds and characters released in this episode? If so, who and where?!
Sunrie:
Unlike the last episode, we're showing off more than just one world. You'll be seeing three actual worlds and one limbo area. How and why the limbo scene connects is a secret, as is how he gets there. There will also be many new characters shown in this one. Some of the new characters are Subarashii, Kinto, Aku, and Komori. Yes, there are more characters, but I'm not about to expose everything right away.

5. Do you feel this is better than your previous work? If so, why?
Sunrie:
Not that I wasn't good before, but yes, this makes Game Ranger 3 look unrefined. Even with all the annoyances, I'm having a blast working on this. Additionally, the voice actors are insanely high quality. Be expecting some recognizable names playing the characters.

6. Even this being the fourth episode, do you still feel this is something original?
Sunrie:
It's original because it's Game Ranger. There are sprites from all over and what-not, but yes, this is something you aren't going to find other places. We have a racist, foul mouthed anti-hero who gimps his way through fights and likable supporting characters who are trying their best to save their worlds.

7. Most of the questions were answered last episode, but a few more were created. Will these be explained?
Sunrie:
Of course. Granted, not every question is going to be answered, but you will get to see why Richter is on the "bad" side of everything, as well as learn where Princess Willow has been. Episode 5 will answer more questions...but that's another story.

8. So more episodes? Excellent! Have you learned new techniques so far making this?
Sunrie:
Like you wouldn't believe. Every time I make a new animation I learn something new to either use in the current or next one I make.

9. What programs do you use?
Sunrie:
Paintshop Pro, Vegas 6.0 Professional, Audicity, Voco Edit Pro, or whatever it's called... I think that's all of them!

10. What has given you the most problems making this animation so far?
Sunrie:
Grrr...getting files from voice actors! Well...that and burning myself out. As of now, with one scene 100% completed, and the other scenes being between 60% and 80% finished, the file size is 13.4MB! Yeah, big file, but this is a fully voiced animation which will be over 10 minutes long.

11. How do you think this will measure up to the other submissions on Newgrounds.com?
Sunrie:
The original, the remake, the second episode, and the third were very well received. I don't see anything other than people finding this one even better and spreading the word about the series. Captain R: The Game Ranger episodes continue to climb in score every day, so I'm sure it will do just fine.

12. Are there any final thoughts or anything else you'd like to say?
Sunrie:
Watch it or die! Hell, maybe even die watching it! You'll laugh, you'll cry...you may even cum a little. I think I just did!

Listen...I'm seriously getting sick and tired of getting voice files which have the most random sample rates or even the most idiotic sample rates I've ever seen.

Here's a fucking hint: If your voice file isn't recorded at 44100hz, then you're doing it wrong!!! If you want to alter the pitch of your voice, use a pitch changer...don't speed up or slow down the god damn sample rate! Flash doesn't like sample rates which aren't native!

Also, record LOUD. It's easier to turn down a file than it is to turn it up and have it NOT sound like fucking shit. Don't send quiet recordings and then ask for us to just turn it up in something like Audacity. Doing so makes the file sound like ass.

Stop it!

(this is also my "O" face)

First off, let me say thank you to everyone for their continued support and the Daily 1st on Super Mario Super Shorts. Proving once again, in the face of down voters and haters, quality rises to the top.

As far as Game Ranger 4 is concerned, I am once again making good progress. I should have the entire intro sequence done by Monday and hopefully some more of the normal scenes. It's such a pain in the ass to be the only one animating and doing the lip syncing. I get burned out really fast.

Richter still seems to be a cursed part, so I may end up having to write him out of the future episodes some how...or at least make him mute. Really don't want to do that, but...well, I may just have to. He's a massive part of this episode, so I hope that I can get the voice for him to be right...

Thus far I'm happy with the way everything is turning out. I do recognize my mistake in making the animation only 24fps, but it's not interfering with the overall quality of the animation. Just that I would have liked a faster frame rate in order to fit in more things and make movements faster/more fluid in some places. The next Game Ranger will run at 30fps at the slowest. May even do 60fps because of fight sequences.

Well, I've wasted enough time. Gotta get back to animating! I have the time...since I busted my ankle drinking and being a dumb ass. You can see it on my Twitter: Yeah...it's in an air cast now.... Oh, which reminds me...don't forget you can follow me on Twitter: Sunrie on Twitter (@CroiDhubh)

UPDATE:

Okay, so I've decided to NOT do the entire 95sec intro. I'm doing it to the 13th season of Bleach intro known as "ChAnGE" by Miwa. It's just not effective for me to do it and doing a 70sec version of it gets the point across just as much. I actually like it.

So...intro is done!
